The local health care accelerator XLerateHealth has picked nine startups from around the country to join its 2019 Louisville cohort, three of which are locally based.

The nine companies are Assay Me (New York), Briocare (Frisco, Texas), Cellgorithmics (Chicago), Clinitraq (Irvine, California), DSC Technologies (Louisville), Hardin Scientific (Los Angeles), Kare Mobile (Louisville), NohoMed (New York), and Prodigy Biosciences (Louisville).

These companies were chosen from hundreds of applicants nationwide. The bootcamp will feature guidance from investors, enterprise consultants and medical experts, a representative from XLerateHealth said.

“We are always excited to see new companies addressing important problems in the health care ecosystem” said Jackie Willmot, CEO and co-founder of XLerateHealth, in a statement. “This year’s cohort represents a broad range of solutions that have the potential to have meaningful impact on patient’s lives. We look forward to working hand-in-hand with the startups and our LEAP and RISE partners to develop these innovations.”

XLerateHealth was founded in 2013 as a way to help health care companies successfully commercialize their businesses. XLerateHealth has 75 companies in its portfolio that cover a wide range of aspects of health care, including biomedical devices, diagnostics, drug therapies, digital health, telemedicine, health care services and aging care, according to a news release.

Here’s what this year’s companies are doing:

Assay Me: An at-home test kit for monitoring diabetes using a urine test strip and a phone app that turns the phone’s camera into a clinical-grade scanner which analyzes the strip for indicators.

Briocare: AI-driven senior care platform that reduces caregiver anxiety with voice technology. It gives the caregiver tons of options to access and schedule events, receive daily reports and more, and it also reduces social isolation for seniors.

Cellgorithmics: A genetic programming platform that converts cells into biological computers using DNA based instructions that read like lines of code. It allows biotechnology companies to understand and alleviate flaws in their cell manufacturing processes.

Clinitraq: A device that helps capture and analyze radiation data for health care workers. The groundbreaking technology helps reduce the time for measuring cumulative doses from 60 days to 60 seconds.

DSC Technologies: A point-of-care blood plasma assay to distinguish between Type I and Type II heart attacks. Rapid identification of the type of heart attack can lead to proper treatment in a more timely manner.

Hardin Scientific: Smart, modular laboratory equipment that helps research and diagnostic companies to discover life-saving treatments and pharmaceuticals. Customers can adopt Hardin’s products much quicker than the industry standard.

Kare Mobile: An innovative platform and app that allows for concierge-style dental treatment on demand. The platform is focused on increasing access to dental care regardless of socioeconomic status.

NohoMed: An intelligent monitoring system that detects COPD exacerbations early. The detection helps solve two problems related to the high cost of COPD — patient noncompliance and alerts that are false positive or that are too late for meaningful intervention.

Prodigy Biosciences: An innovative approach to food testing and allergy management. The company’s immunoassay can specially detect traces of allergens, like peanuts, that can be used for lab testing. This product could eventually become a table-side tester for people with food allergies.
